Pain = Buying Tons of Books

I figured out when I have a flare-up or my knee decides to bum out for the day, my mom used to placate me with books or other gems that shine brightly in this world regardless of the pain. My mom did this for three years before I was diagnosed with all my diseases and disorders. She is the one that instilled in me a love of books and reading to cope with my pain, which has now manifested into an English/Classics double major and Graduate school for literature.

I have not been feeling well lately and I’ve been struggling a bit more than I like to admit to myself, so I decided to pep myself up and buy $100 worth of books….for the second time in the last couple weeks. I really cannot complain and a lot of them are background for my thesis work in the Fall.

If I bought a book for everyday I have been in pain…

I choose to concentrate on things like this on days like these. If I were to try to contemplate the reasons on why and how a thing like this could happen, I’d get lost in a sea of terror. As much as I like to joke about hating people, as a whole we’re a pretty good lot, and people rising up and doing things for their fellow citizens brings me peace and hope on an otherwise scary day.

I am glad the people I know are safe. I hope the people you know are too. My heart goes out to the city and all those affected.

Also please note that I would trust Perez Hilton before I’d trust the NY Post. A lot of information gets thrown around haphazardly, make sure it’s the right info before you panic.

Perspective in a tough time.

I need feminism because J.K. Rowling, amazingly successful author of the Harry Potter series, was advised to use her initials instead of er full name so that her books might sell to a wider market; namely, to boys who, presumably, would not have read something written by a female.

Same deal with poets, such as H.D. which was chosen for her by Ezra Pound though it might have not had such a harsh connotations as some of the authors above. Oh, patriarchy! How I hate thee.
